I am writing this post from my breakfast table. It is quiet.
Wait. That is exactly how I started my last post. But it is happening again. I will be honest and tell you that it probably won’t be that last time I brag about having a little peace and quiet. I am still getting used to all of the kids being at school. While I am here. Alone.
Anyway. Let’s talk about my day. I dropped the kids off at school. Then I went to the bank. Then I went for a pedicure. Now, I realize that I just bragged about getting a pedi today but you have to understand it has been so long that it was more of a necessity than a desire. Man feet they were. And I mean like construction boot wearing man feet. Worked too hard.
Next I went to Target where I saw moms pushing their kids in carts. But not me. I gathered my list and was out of there in no time. Easy breezy.
Much, much later:
Sorry. That was from yesterday. I had to race to pickup my son from preschool. They frown on vomiting at his school. So is the life of a mommy blogger. All glamor and glitz.
Anyway. I will try to continue my story about my fabulous day, even though today I have a four-year old rolling firetrucks across my arm. Where was I. Oh yes. Yesterday.
Let me just fast forward to the most awesomest part of yesterday. No really. It was awesome. And not awesome like I had to pick my son up from preschool because he was throwing up awesome. Awesome like I won the lottery awesome. Except I didn’t really win the lottery. I did get a major blogger shout out though. Score!
What? What does that mean? Well let me explain. I started this blog January of this year. I started with almost zero knowledge about blogging or websites. Heck back then I didn’t even read blogs. I just knew I was pretty funny and someone other than me and my friends needed to know about it. (Modesty gets you no where, people)
So I researched and studied and read everything that I could find on Google. And other blogs. I slowly set up this site. Then I begin to write. And eventually people started reading it. When you start a blog you have to find people who actually want to read it. You have to build a following. One Facebook like at a time. One blog subscriber at a time. I won’t lie. Every time I get a follower I still get giddy. Seriously, it only takes one.
To keep a blog growing several things have to happen. You have to be a decent writer. You have to believe in what you write. You have to interact with those who take the time to tell you that they actually read your stuff. That part is easy for me. I would hug every one of you if I could. I have no boundaries.
Next you have to get exposure anywhere that you can. People can’t read your blog if they don’t know it exists. The people at sites like BlogHer and Mamapedia have featured several of my posts. Every time one get featured you would have thought I had won a Pulitzer Prize. It is that exciting (I am suddenly embarrassed at just how easy I am).
But yesterday something unexpected happened. I guess the stars were all aligned perfectly or hard work met opportunity. Whatever you want to call it. It happened. A blogger who had already paid her dues as I am doing now, unexpectedly gave me a shout out.
Do you know Kim Bongiorno from Let Me Start By Saying?? Cause if you don’t you should. She is a decorated writer and contributor who just so happens to have a hilarious blog to boot.
Evidently she put up an all call on her Facebook page. She was looking for up and coming bloggers. Ones that were still small but had needed to be heard. Given a chance. I have a friend who saw the post and thought I fit the bill. She added my blog to the long list of other good blogs. That was actually good enough for me. Someone liked my blog enough to list me on Let Me Start By Saying‘s Facebook page! Woo Hoo! Good day.
But no. That was not to be the end. It only got better. Later I checked my Twitter page and I had new followers. One of which was Let Me Start By Saying! I almost fell over. Then there was a tweet. She had added my latest blog post to her Pinterest board titled Blogs To Grow. Bell On Heels was on her Pinterest board. Shut up!
It did not stop there. Next I got a shout out on her Facebook page. My head was spinning. I had gotten some amazing exposure for my little blog. When I woke up this morning no one told me it would be the best day ever!
You may think, big deal. It was just one post and you would be correct. But it was a huge deal for me. I am grateful for every person who shares my stories. Every single time. I have realized that writing a blog about my life is something that I love. I want to share it with anyone and everyone who needs a good laugh, a good cry or can learn from my mistakes. Or even the things I accidentally did right.
I will just keep writing. Every single day has the potential to be a great one. I tell myself that anyone who is loved and respected in blogging, or anything else for that matter, started right where I am now. I am no quitter. I will keep growing. One post at a time. One reader at a time. One day you may just see Bell On Heels in lights. Or on a book. Ohhhh or on a reality show! OR ON A BOX OF SHOES!!

Every blog starts with no followers, no comments, just a voice and the Publish button. I’m glad you started on the right (well-heeled) foot, because that post I shared wasn’t one of a newbie. It was good on so many levels, it’s hard to articulate.
Which is why I shared it and you and have tears in my eyes at this post because I have so been there.
SO, thank you. Thank you for being appreciative and for working hard at this writing thing. It’s worth every moment of effort.
See you around the www!
~Kim

Yesterday I clicked over here from Let Me Start by Saying and read five of your posts. Without interruption. I was sad when my two year old pulled me away to help her put away crayons. (Luckily she didn’t draw on the walls while I was poring over your words!)
Love your writing!

Now you have me thinking… If there were Bell on Heels shoes, what would they be? I mean, I immediately thought of stunning heels, but would it stop there? I would think there’d have to be multiple options ranging from heels to practical tennis shoes with a flare for the amazing.
Also, as a sidenote, I know exactly what you mean about being mentioned on a blog. I had been reading a blog religiously and mentioned something she blogged about and how it got me thinking (basically, I blogged about something she blogged about from my perspective). The next day, she talked about that post! And then she added me on Twitter. And then she added me on Facebook, as in my personal Facebook with HER personal Facebook.
I basically had a joygasm.

Hahaha! A joygasm! I love it! If anyone ever gives me a crack at a shoe line it will be amazing shoes for any walk of life. I can see it now….. ๐
