My posts always seem to center around my life as a mother. I will admit, being the mother of four does give me a lot of my material. Today however, I do not want to talk about them. I want to talk about me. More specifically, I want to discuss my addiction to fashion accessories.
My wardrobe is not that fancy. It is mainly composed of mom jeans and t-shirts. Sure I have a few dresses and business suits for when I get called into action, out in the real world. You see, I once worked in the real world. That was 2 and a half children ago though. (The half being because I was pregnant with number two). Those clothes are long gone because they would be a style spectacle now. Well that and they would not fit, thanks to four pregnancies. That is okay though. I don’t need designer clothes to be a stylish stay at home mom. I do however need great accessories.
Some people may not understand my love of shoes, handbags, clutches, gaudy costume jewelry, scarves, sunglasses and the newly added accessory, hats. The way I look at it, people collect coins, stamps, glass figurines, comic books and baseball cards. You people make no sense to me. I don’t judge you though. If you want to collect those things and it makes you happy, then I say go for it. I choose to collect things that I can actually wear on my body. I am a walking collection display if you will. Ohhh…..I just got a little tingly.
I would say as a young girl, my first love was handbags. According to my last count (which was 5 minutes ago) I have 18 handbags. I have had many, many, many bags in my life. My OCD does not allow for clutter though, so anytime a bag gets worn or goes out of style or becomes one that I don’t love anymore, it gets sent to Goodwill or given to my mother for a present. DO NOT JUDGE ME! I don’t give her the worn ones, only the ones I don’t love anymore. She has loved every one of them. Every bag deserves a good home.
Here is how I store my bags.
Do you see how neatly they are displayed? They are three deep in each row. It is a shame you can’t actually see them all. Notice how I do NOT have a fashionable, designer closet to display them better? I think my husband knows that if I had a bigger closet with shelves, then I would need to buy more handbags. I also have 6 clutches in my collection. Every girl needs a go-to clutch. If you don’t have one, you should.
My next fashion accessory is shoes. This category has become my first love. I have a total of 42 pairs. That doesn’t seem unreasonable to me. I have a whole bunch of flat shoes, contrary to popular belief. I have several pairs of thong sandals. This is about all I wear in the summertime. I do not love flip-flops though and I only wear those to the pool. I have boots, wedges and athletic shoes.
The real works of art though, are kept on the top shelf. That is where I display all of my sky-high beauties You may ask, where does a stay at home mom ever go, that she needs tall shoes? Believe it or not, I do get out every now and then and when I do, I grab something off of this shelf:
This view just makes me happy. Not only do I like to wear them, sometimes I like to go in there and just look at them. I am a true connoisseur of all things shoes. Here are three of my favs that are in my stash right now:
My next fashion category obsession, would be my love of costume jewelry. My grandmother had a big drawer full of the stuff. I loved to sit on her bed and watch her go through it all. She would try on several things before picking what she would wear for the day. Now I have my own drawer. Necklaces, earrings, rings and bracelets: I love them all. I believe that any outfit can be made better with the perfect jewelry. You can take a pair of jeans and a t-shirt and make it pop with the perfect bling on your neck, ears and wrists.
I guess I should include scarves here as well. These are a winter time must. I counted 12 in my closet. I would have 100, but I try to be sensible, about some things anyway. A scarf is also a great way to dress up a drab ensemble. What fun these are.
I must now address my newest obsession. I have only recently fell head over heels in love with hats. Who knew? I didn’t know how cute I look in hats until this year. I mean look at this:
I am ready for the pool! I have to protect my skin. Right? I bought this hat just yesterday. The only problem, there was another hat in the store that I loved equally. I was having a hard time deciding which to get. So what does any fashion forward girl do? She gets them both:
And just like that I am ready for the beach as well. You have to be prepared for any situation.
Okay I think I have covered all of the big ones. I guess the point of all of this was to show you a little bit about the woman behind the blog. And to tell you that, you don’t have to have the most stylish clothes. You only need the perfect accessories to make a look complete. I have built many great outfits around a cute bracelet. If loving accessories is wrong, then I don’t want to be right.
Wow. That was even more fun than I thought! What are your favorite fashion accessories?
