Oh my goodness. It is December the WHAT? Where is this month going? Where is this year going?
Have you missed me? If you haven’t then you must be as busy as I am. This is a crazy time of the year for a whole lot of people. So much to get done before time runs out.
You know what I have noticed though? A whole lot of bloggers are beating themselves up for not posting enough. I keep seeing posts about how sorry someone is for not being active enough. Then they swear that they are going to do better. Starting right…..now!
No you’re not. You know why? Because you are human. And life happens.
So that got me thinking about what it means to be a blogger. What is a blogger, anyway?
There are all kinds of people who refer to themselves as bloggers. I actually don’t even know if I am comfortable calling myself a blogger. That just sounds so fancy.
I am more like someone who loves to get online and ramble on about anything that happens to be on my mind. And when people actually read what I have written, I could just about pee my pants with gratitude.
The actual term blogger simply means a person who posts their own experiences, observations, opinions, etc. on a website.
Okay. I guess I am fancy enough to be called a blogger. That does sound pretty much like what I do.
A blogger is someone whom people look to for information, advice or entertainment.
Well that would certainly be me. We all know that I am nothing, if not hysterical. I am entertainment on a stick. As fun as a lollipop. And cotton candy.
But what I have learned is that with this title of blogger comes guilt. You have people who tell you how much they enjoy reading your posts. Or they comment on how they can totally relate to a piece that you have written.
Then you write another post. And another post. And another. People keep reading your blog. It is a great feeling.
But what if you can’t write for a day or two? Or a week? Or longer?
Are these people going to turn their backs on you? Are they sitting there right now thinking:
That is it. If I do not see a new post today, I am never reading her stuff again.
Gosh I hope not. If that is the case then I am possibly writing this post for no one but myself. And my mother.
I want to say something to all of the other bloggers out there. All of you who are desperately juggling your family, friends and responsibilities along with your blog.
If we read your blog, then we love you. We would hug you if we could.
I certainly know what it is like to not want to let people down. Along with the fear that people will forget who you are.
Everyone who reads my blog is human. As far as I know anyway.
Every person who reads Bell On Heels knows that life is busy at times. They understand that some days they are not going to hear a peep out of me.
They don’t need my excuses or reasons. They just need me to entertain them, as often as I can make it happen.
So if you are a blogger, take a deep breath and let yourself off the hook. Remember why you started blogging in the first place.
You had something to say.
You still have something to say. Maybe you don’t have anything to say on Wednesday. Or Thursday. Or even Friday. But I am betting that by Saturday you will think of something that the world simply MUST know.
People read your blog because you speak to them. Or you make them laugh. Or you make them cry. But in a good way.
If you don’t write something today, the world will not stop turning. People will still manage to get through their day.
It will not be near as enjoyable. But they will muddle through.
Don’t pressure yourself into writing a post. And don’t hammer out a post apologizing for how you don’t have time to write a post.
Only write a post when you have something to say. And the time to sit and write a good post. That is what people expect from you.
With that being said, I hope you all know that it is almost Christmas. And I have four kids.
I have been running around like mad, trying to get things crossed off my list.
It does not mean that I don’t love you. Because I do.
Some days I don’t even have time to wash my hair, much less sit down at the computer.
Some days I have time to write but I don’t feel inspired.
But some days I wake up knowing that there is a topic that I simply MUST share with you. TODAY. Right now.
Something I know is going to make you laugh. Or make you feel better about your own life. Or make you feel not so alone in the world.
Those are the great days. And THAT is why I blog.
For those who are like me, those who just write blogs because you have something to say, please know that we will still be here when you get around to writing your next post.
If you are too busy today, we will check back tomorrow. Absence makes the heart grow fonder.
Right?
I love you all. Thanks for sticking around.

Thanks for the reminder! I try to post a few times a week, but don’t beat myself up about it. What bothers me more is having to post like crazy on various social media channels, because it seems like that’s a pre-requisite for becoming a blogger nowadays!
